The Morgan Dollar is a fascinating piece of American history. It was designed by Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan (1845-1925) and originally minted from 1878 to 1904, with a final run in 1921. This iconic silver dollar is a symbol of the country's westward expansion and industrial development in the late 19th century. It was created through the use of modern technology and historical U.S. Mint assets. Today, a new Morgan Dollar has been minted with a beautiful proof finish that is sure to capture the attention of collectors.
The Design
The obverse of the coin features a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a cap, with flora and a crown adorning her head. The word "LIBERTY" is also incused on the crown. Surrounding her are 13 stars, the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the year of issuance. The reverse side of the coin showcases an eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle is depicted clasping arrows and an olive branch, with a wreath below it. The reverse inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "ONE DOLLAR."
